Choosing a Family Dentist
There are several things to consider when choosing a dentist for your family:
- Location - Is it near your home? If not, is it worth the drive?
- Insurance - Do they accept your dental insurance?
- Family Friendly - Will your children have something to do in the lobby? (Try looking for office photos on their websites.)
- Experience - How many years has the doctor been practicing? Do they stay up-to-date on current techniques?
- Educational - Do the hygienists know how to teach children about their teeth?
- Available - Are you able to schedule appointments within a reasonable timeframe?
- Helpful - If you call with a question, do you spend 10 minutes on hold?
If you have children, choosing a good dentist is very important. Between cleanings and cavities, you'll spend a lot of time at the office, so make sure you're comfortable with it. Your kids will appreciate the continuity of going to the same dentist for each visit. However, if there is a problem with your current office, don't be afraid to look around. There are plenty of options.
